What is Magne Shade?

Magne Shade is an exterior sunshade system that uses rare-earth (neodymium) magnets to anchor a tensioned mesh panel against the outside of your windshield and windows. The shade itself is high-density Textilene mesh, the same UV-resistant fabric used on commercial patio umbrellas and architectural shade structures.

The product line covers more than the windshield. The same magnetic system carries to the side windows, mirror covers, wiper covers, and tire covers, all sized to your specific coach.

This is one of the few Prevost upgrades where the magnetic mounting solves a real problem. Interior reflective shades only push heat back at a dash that's already absorbed it. Suction-cup or stick-on exterior options either leave marks on the gel coat or flap themselves loose in a stiff breeze. Magna Shade has neither problem, and it's the only exterior shade we've seen that holds tight on a panoramic Prevost windshield without anything taped or glued.

How does Magne Shade install?

  • Place the interior anchors

A set of neodymium magnets goes inside the windshield, behind the glass, on a custom-cut backer. This is a one-time install and stays put.

  • Snap on the exterior shade

The mesh panel has matching magnets sewn into the perimeter. Walk up to the coach, line up the corners, and the magnets pull through the glass and lock to the anchors.

  • Add tension bands (optional)

Run them under the wiper arms or to body-mounted anchor points for a tighter fit in wind. Skip them on calm sites.

Once the kit is sized to your coach, install and removal each take about five minutes per panel. No ladder, and nothing to climb over inside the cab. The first install is the slower one. You're either booking time with a Magne Shade tech at an RV rally or mailing in your measurements and waiting for the cut shade and pre-set magnets to come back. Plan a few weeks for that part.

Magne Shade vs interior sunshades and window tint

Most Prevost owners aren't choosing between Magna Shade and nothing. They're weighing it against the interior reflective shade already in the basement bay, or against paying a shop to tint the glass.

What the table doesn't capture: stopping heat at the glass is a different job than reflecting it once it's inside. Reflective interior shades help. They're better than no shade. But the dash and leather are still cooking the whole time the coach is parked. An exterior shade keeps the cabin closer to outside-air temperature, and that's the difference you actually feel walking back into the coach after a hot day at a beach-adjacent resort or anywhere south of I-10 in summer.

Is Magne Shade worth it for a Prevost?

If the coach sits in direct sun for any real share of the year, yes, and it's not close. A Prevost dash and leather aren't cheap to replace, and a few summers of unblocked UV makes that bill arrive sooner than you'd think. Stack it against the upgrades that get more attention (a Starlink Roam install, a satellite-to-streaming switch, the cosmetic refresh items) and the per-dollar interior protection on a $1,350–$1,850 full-coach kit is hard to beat.

Where it's harder to justify: an owner who only weekends the coach and stores it covered the rest of the time. The interior is already protected. A windshield-only piece at $775–$875 is enough.

And if you're in the Prevost market at the price points these coaches command, the math on a $1,500 upgrade that protects a six- or seven-figure interior isn't really a question.

An exterior shade keeps the cabin closer to outside-air temperature when you're parked. Reflective interior shades just slow the heat down once it's already inside.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Magne Shade cost for a Prevost?

Windshield-only kits run about $775–$875. A full-coach kit (windshield, side windows, mirrors, wipers) runs about $1,350–$1,850 depending on coach length and conversion (including 6 tire covers).

Are Magne Shades worth it for a motorhome?

Yes if the coach gets meaningful sun exposure. UV is what cracks leather and fades cabinetry, and the exterior mounting is what makes Magne Shade different from interior shades. Stopping heat at the glass keeps the cabin cooler than reflecting it once it's already inside.

How does the magnetic windshield cover for an RV stay on?

Neodymium magnets are mounted inside the windshield on a custom backer. The shade has matching magnets in the perimeter, and they pull through the glass to lock the panel in place. Optional tension bands add wind resistance for windy sites.

Are Magne Shade tire covers worth it?

For a coach that sits in storage or on a lot for weeks at a time, tire covers extend tire life by blocking the UV that dries out the rubber sidewalls. The Magna Shade tire covers use the same Textilene mesh as the windshield piece and attach magnetically to the wheel, so there are no straps to wrestle on or store.

Can you drive with Magne Shade installed?

No. The exterior shades are designed for parked use only. Roll them up before you move the coach.

Does Magne Shade fit a Prevost H3-45 panoramic windshield?

Yes. The kits are cut to your coach by year, model, and converter, and the panoramic windshield on an H3-45 or X3-45 is one of their core fits. Bring the conversion (Marathon, Liberty, Featherlite, Emerald, Millennium, Loki) when you order.

How does Magne Shade compare to interior sunshades?

Interior shades reflect heat after it's already inside. Magne Shade blocks it at the glass, which keeps the dash and leather cooler. Interior shades are cheaper and easier to throw up for an afternoon, but they're not doing the same job.
